Bugaboos This is the Bugaboo Spire which Conard Kain climbed in 1916. He climbed along the left hand ridge ... things went well until he reached the "gendarme", (which can be seen in this photo ... near the summit) ... Albert MacCarthy, who was Kain's client, described this obstacle as a "bugaboo", a term which later gave the peak its name. The other people who made the first ascent were Beth MacCathy (Albert's wife) and John Vincent.
